Here is the information that was sent your BTC regarding
Software Downloads for the Web 2.0 Class

August 30, 2010

Dear BTCs –

Some teachers  from your school are participating in the 2010-11 ITES Grant: Web 2.0 Tools in the Classroom:

They will be enrolled in an eight week online tutorial course where they will be exploring Web 2.0 Tools and need the following items downloaded if they do not already have them on their computer.  Since teachers do not have permissions to download software on their computer can you please make sure these items are on their computers before they reach the need for this software in the course? Some items will begin appearing in the course during the first week of September.  It would be much appreciated if these items were on their computer by September 3, 2010.  Here is a link to the course they will be taking if you want to look through the weeks to see what they will be exploring:  Academy District 20 / 20 Things – Online Class.

These titles should be in KBOX.  Diigolet may be the only title not found on KBOX at this time.

1.     Movie Maker (this will probably already be on the computer)

2.     PhotoStory 3

3.     Audacity

4.     Lame

5.     Google Earth

6.     iTunes

7.     Picasa Web Album

8.     Skype

9.     TweetDeck

10.  Diigolet - It appears the easiest way to get the Digolet "super bookmarklet" to individual users is for them to add it to their toolbar themselves. By visiting this web site it is a simple drag and drop installation to the toolbar. This site can also tell which browser you are using and give the appropriate version too: http://www.diigo.com/tools/diigolet

11. Any Video Converter

They will also need the Flip Camera Software/

Flip Camera Software – (Must have a Flip Camera to plug into USB to download software - contact me if your school does not have a Flip Camera and I will get one to you for the download).

All users

1. Find the required lame_enc.dll from \\kbox\client\Audacity\ 2. Do not open this file, but copy it to your computer. As you will be using this .dll file directly for encoding it is recommended to save it into your Audacity installation folder. This is normally at C:\Program Files\Audacity. Once lame_enc.dll is saved to your computer:

3. Launch Audacity, click Edit > Preferences then the File Formats tab. Note: In Audacity 1.2.x, it may be necessary to click the left-pointing arrow top right of the window to reveal the tab 4. Look for the MP3 Export section.

5. Click on the "Find Library" button

6. In Audacity 1.2.6 this will ask if you want to locate the LAME encoder. Click "Yes".

7. In the dialogue box, go to the folder where you put lame_enc.dll earlier, and select it.

8. Click Open, then OK.
