2010-11 Continuation of ET-IL Collaboration Mini Grant

 

 

The purpose of the ET-IL Collaboration Mini Grant is to provide time, support and professional development to teams of librarians, technology specialists and teachers to collaboratively plan, teach and assess backwards-planned inquiry units that integrate ET-IL and other 21st century skills into standards-based instruction.

 

 

 

A possible model for participation might look like:

  • ½ day for collaborative team to receive “just-in-time” professional development on topics such as
    • Understanding 21st century learning
    • Creating assessments for 21st century skills
    • Quadrant D/Inquiry-based Learning
  • ½ day for collaborative team to
    • Build unit
    • Create Assessment tools
    • Assemble Resources
  • ½ day for collaborative team to
    • Assess student work: standards & 21st century skills
    • Reflect on unit
    • Refine/Revise for future use

 

 

Expectations and Benefits:

Each school should prepare a brief action plan that explains how you will use planning time, professional development, and reflection for teams of teachers, librarians and technology specialists to create inquiry-based learning units that integrate information literacy, technology, and other 21st century skills into the standards-based curriculum.  Due Date: September 3, 2010

 

  1. Each school can request funding for subs to use as needed to carry out their action plan. Provide a budget narrative and clearly identify the number and type of subs being requested, and whether these are half-day or full day subs. (certified or classified)
  2. The IT-ES Team will evaluate all action plans and notify schools of the awarded funding for subs as outlined above. Schools may modify their action plans with the assistance of IT-ES if the full amount of funding requested cannot be awarded.
  3. Each school will create and post to the Inquiry-based Lesson database at least 2 lesson/unit plans created collaboratively that address the new English and Language Arts common core standards adopted by CDE and Academy District 20 and integrate 21st century skills.

 

 

Use subs to:

 

    1. Complete strategic planning for continued collaboration and integration of & 21st century skills and address the English Language Arts common core standards.  In Reading for Literature and Reading for Informational text use the categories of Key Ideas and Details and Integration of Knowledge and Ideas.   In the Writing standards use the categories of Production and Distribution of Writing and Research to Build and Present Knowledge.  In Speaking and Listening use the categories of Comprehension and Collaboration and Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas.  
    2. Collaborate to create inquiry-based units of instruction that integrate 21st century skills and address the English Language Arts common core standards.  In Reading for Literature and Reading for Informatinal text use the categories of Key Ideas and Details and Integration of Knowledge and Ideas.  In the Writing standards use the categories of Production and Distribution of Writing and Research to Build and Present Knowledge.  In speaking and listening use the categories of Comprehension and Collaboration and Presentation of Knowledge and ideas. 
    3. Address professional development needs for 21st century skills, ET-IL integration, ET-IL assessment, and inquiry-based instruction
    4. Meet mid-year to determine progress and course of action for remainder of school year
    5. Share projects, look at student work, reflect on collaboration process, plan for the next school year

 

  1. Librarian, BTC, and administrator meet with IT-ES in fall and mid-year to review plan and evaluate progress.

 

  1. Share results of collaboratively planned projects at a school staff meeting
